I received a request today to provide the Santa Barbara Unified School District 16 copies of Archer “In order to have the book vetted by our Chairs and librarians.” I said sure and the Director of Curriculum came to my house to pick up the books. She said that they have to be careful because of the different views on religion. This makes me wonder how a book that refers to ancient gods would be viewed.
I know that the fact that there is another great flood in Archer goes against the covenant that God made with Noah never to destroy everything again with a flood.
But Archer is fiction and is based on the MesoAmerican myth that the gods created humans to honor them: “There would be “no high days and no bright praise for our work, our design, until the rise of the human work, the human design”. But their first three efforts were failures. The third failed race, people fashioned from wood, were destroyed in a universal flood.
Some people think that the Mayan predicted that our world will end on December 21, 2012 by flood.
I don’t know, I was just trying to tell a good story. I hope the School District doesn’t find Archer to be too sacrilegious for their reading list.
